World Day of Prayer

The World Day of Prayer is an annual event that is celebrated in over 170 countries and is happening on the first Friday in March. It is organized by the Christian ecumenical laywomen initiative. It all started in the United States of America in 1887 when Marry Ellen Fairchild James organized prayer for the home mission. The goal of the world day of prayer is to bring together women of various cultures, nations, and races in traditional international prayer as well as to create understanding and harmony among people.

The first expansion of the World Day of Prayer was to Canada in 1922, and then it moved to the British Isles in the early 1930s. Additional strong expansion happened after World War II when the prayer was collectively needed the most. Even though World Day of Prayer in that was organized in March was known as Women’s Day of Prayer, it took until 1967 for the Second Vatican Council to allow women to join the movement.

The goal of the World Day of Prayer is to prove that prayer and action come together and that both can create changes in the world. The goal is to encourage others to become aware of brothers and sisters around the world, feel their suffers and needs in order to sympathize with them and take actions along with prayers in order to help them. Each year World Day of Prayer takes place in a different country, in a different corner of the world, and each year that country is in focus of the prayers. Last year the World Day of Prayer was held in the city of Split Croatia, a city that has the oldest cathedral in the world.

WHAT IS A PRAYER?

Do we understand the real purpose of the prayer, and when to practice it? We often mistake both, but God loves us and forgives us, but it is never too late to learn. God created everything, the sky and earth, big mountains and ocean wonders, like mesmerizing tour to Blue Cave organised by Zen Travel Croatia, and dreamy waterfalls around the world. We are also God’s creation and that is why he has patience and love for us.

When we pray we lift our soul closer to God, and you can do that in many ways. If you pray in silence with your thoughts and wishes then it is an inner pray. If you follow your wishes and pray with a word that is a verbal pray, but most joyful prayer is when you think, feel, speak, and sing. Prayer is festive for the soul; it can unleash the greatness within us, a greatness that is given by our Lord.

If we should define prayer, the definition would be: Prayer is a conversation with God. That conversation is personal and very powerful; as when a small and helpless child talks to his father, who is a symbol of safety and love and asks for his help, security and answers to some questions they have no answer. Prayer unites and brings people together, and calls for love and communion. It can be a personal and intimate conversation with God, a meditation, or prayer of complete surrender in silence.

People nowadays are praying when they are facing hard times. In those times we are asking God for help, for forgiveness, for guidance but we should talk to God every day. Prayer is not for hard days only, and it should not be reserved for times that we need something. We should pray every day, in good and bad, and especially in good times. We should celebrate God for every good day that we have, and ask for forgiveness.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A PRAYER?

The purpose of the prayer should be spiritual growth, sharing of love, and blessings to the others, and not just to ourselves. Scripture says, “It is more a blessing to give than to receive”. On the path to your spiritual growth, you should question yourself and find out what is the life purpose you are created for. How deep is your faith? Do you glorify God? Your greatest achievement should be perfect communion with God.

CAN GOD HEAR OUR PRAYER?

Prayer is also a hope where God will hear our deepest desires and dreams, make a miracle, especially when we are in difficult life situations, where we have no solutions and answers. Praying is powerful because then we rely on God who sees everything, knows and feels for us, and has the most influence when praying in a group or community because as many people pray, the Universe unites and God works for us and our well-being. No prayer is ever in vain, but we must have firm faith and hope, because, God already knows all our struggles and crises we are faced with, but it must be sincere and pure because that is the only way God hears. Our prayers do not always need to be fulfilled in the way we want, and they can be fulfilled in some other form, but in these situations, we must have trust in God and know that He is doing our best good.

WHO CAN WE PRAY FOR?

We can pray for many things; for the conversion of sinners, for the dear deceased, for souls in purgatory, laymen, priests and the Church, for all people in the world, for our own needs, spiritual and physical healing, for peace in the world, and for various other needs in which the world is situated, and God will extend by his love, his grace, affection, and faithfulness, to anyone who sincerely prays and through prayer has made the act of surrender to the God.

THE POWER OF PRAYER IS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN

The greatest atheists and sworn scientists have become converts and found the truth in God that has changed their lives. Distinguished neurosurgeon and professor, Dr. Eben Alexander, claims that during his few days in a coma he experienced clinical death and ended up in paradise. He was always skeptical of the experiences of his patients, who experienced clinical death and witnessed the existence of beyond the world, conversations with angels and God until he experienced such a thing when he got a rare disease and was in a coma for seven days. Subsequently, he became one of the strongest proponents of the idea that paradise exists and that spiritual reality is as real as material.
